10 Las Vegas Haunts You Won’t want to Miss

1. Coronado Crossed Here
Walk in Coronado’s footsteps across the bridge over the Gallinas River. The Spanish explorer Coronado crossed here in 1451.
2. Circle the Wagons
The Old Town Plaza was the gathering place for wagons. The buildings surrounding the Plaza provided further protection from attacking Indians. (The Plaza is featured No Country for Old Men, Easy Rider, Speechless, Longmire) and many other movies.
3. The Ghost of Byron T. Mills
The Plaza Hotel is home to Byron T. He still haunts hotel guests from room 310.
4. Sheriff Longmire’s Office
You’ll find the Wyoming office of Longmire on the west side of the Old Town Plaza. (the TV series was filmed in and around Las Vegas).
5. Behind Bars
Visit original Las Vegas jail cells housed inside Tito’s Jewelry Store on Bridge Street.
6. Montezuma Castle
About 5 miles north of town on Montezuma Highway, you’ll find a castle that was once a Harvey House resort. The castle is now home to 200 students from around the world who attend the American branch of the United World College.
7. Hear the Lonesome Whistle Blow
The Southwest Chief still makes a stop twice a day at the original Santa Fe Railroad Station. Trains run daily each direction between Chicago and Las Angeles.
8. Teddy Roosevelt slept here
The Castaneda Hotel on Railroad Ave. was the site of the first Rough Riders’ reunion in 1899. Of course, Teddy Roosevelt was here!
9. Carnegie Library
Built in 1904, this is one of the few original Carnegie Libraries that still serves as a library.
10. Over 900 Historic Sites
Take a walking tour around Las Vegas to see homes on the National Historic Registry. Styles include Spanish Colonial, Victorian, and Mission Revival.
